/// Safer Space & Community Guidelines ///

We strive to foster a space of inclusivity and respect. We ask everyone to not bring (in no particular order) ableist, ageist, body shaming, classist, homophobic, misogynist, misandrist, racist, transphobic, oppressive language, attitudes, and actions at the space. We look to hold ourselves and one another accountable to creating a culture in which we treat each other with consent and respect. This includes but is not limited to respecting people's physical and emotional boundaries and receiving explicit verbal consent before touching someone or crossing other personal boundaries. If you are disrupting our safer space we will ask you to leave.

/// Zoom Guidelines /// (Online)

2.) It is best to have your display on “Speaker View” to see the host and performer. “Gallery View” will allow you to see all guests at once.

3.) Feel free to add a name and pronoun into your display so we can say hello and know who is joining us. Keep in mind that this event is streaming publicly so take any precautions about sharing your identity.

4.) Guests could also have “Video” on or off, as that is optional.

More about the event…

We’re celebrating Halloween with Poetry! It’ll be a fun-filled, poetically packed evening, with an open mic (scary stories and spooky rhymes encouraged) followed by a Dead Poets’ Slam — watch for John Lennon, Rainier Maria Rilke, William Shakespeare, Shel Silverstein, James Wright, and quite possibly even more scary poetic ghosts (even tho’ they’re dead, we still like to read their poetry, and the judges will even give it numbers) — followed by a costume contest (cash prizes awarded by popular acclaim). Along the way, we’ll be doing cooperative, intuitive PUMPKIN POETRY! Plus, we will be hearing from this year’s Jack Kerouac Contest winners from Lowell High School. This competition happens once a year as part of the Lowell Celebrates Kerouac festival, and we will bring in the top three writers to share their stuff with our community. Join us — in costume if you dare!

If you are interested in participating in the Dead Poets’ Slam, either by representing a dead poet or by volunteering to judge, please contact lowellpoetry@gmail.com.

/// ✨ About our Feature ✨ ///

Christopher Clauss is an introvert, Ravenclaw, father, poet, and middle school science teacher from Chesterfield, NH. He is a poetry organizer at Slam Free or Die in Manchester, NH, a venue he has represented six times at the National Poetry Slam. His work explores the bliss and turmoil of faith, teaching, parenting, marriage, and community in rural New England, as well as the obligatory science and nonsense. Christopher’s poems have been published in New York Quarterly, Plants and Poetry Journal, Sylvia, FreezeRay, and Bureau of Complaint. Christopher's first full-length book of poetry, Photosynthesis & Respiration is now available from Silver Bow Press or your favorite local bookstore. His mother believes his poetry is "just wonderful." Both of his daughters declare that he is the "best daddy they have," and his pre-teen science students rave that he is "Fine, I guess. Whatever." Christopher's first full-length book of poetry, Photosynthesis & Respiration is now available from Silver Bow Press or your favorite local bookstore. http://www.silverbowpublishing.com/photosynthesis-and-respiration.html

February 2023 Untitled Open Mic Featuring "I Think I ____ You" Showcase

The 3rd Wednesday continues to be Untitled!

Wednesday, February 15, 6 to 9 pm

“I Think I ___ You” Showcase

Coffee & Cotton in Mill No. 5

The day after Valentine’s we will be jumping into all things LOVEly with poems that delve into relationships — good, angry, queer, sweet, and/or ill-advised.

Six poets will be sharing their original takes on this age-old theme: Chris Ashley, Jean, Annah Penn, Mike Regan, Kris Rouille, and Peter Vann.

We encourage readers in our open mic to share the love and bring work that talks about love in all its aspects, but of course, Untitled is always open, so bring whatever musings, verses, or free-rambling you would like to share with the community.

Hosted at Coffee and Cotton at Mill No. 5. Located in a historic downtown textile building, Mill No. 5 is a destination into what Lowell is; home to independent shops, The Luna Theatre, the Farm Market, and Coffee and Cotton. Coffee and Cotton is the heart of the building, serving up coffee, espresso, lattes, wine, local craft beer, and delicious, made to order, locally sourced options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It is also a venue for live music, game nights, community events, and now our Untitled Open Mic.

/// About the Showcase ///

It has been said that all poems are love poems, so we will be testing this theory with a wide variety of pieces from a special sampling of Untitled Homies: Chris Ashley, Jean, Annah Penh, Mike Regan, Kris Rouille, and Peter Vann. You’ll hear their voices in juxtaposition to and justification of each other — sure to be both fun and illuminating!

Located in a historic downtown textile building, Mill No. 5 is a destination into what Lowell is; home to independent shops, The Luna Theatre, the Farm Market, and Coffee and Cotton. Coffee and Cotton is the heart of the building, serving up coffee, espresso, and lattes, wine, local craft beer, delicious, made to order, locally sourced options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It is also a venue for live music, game nights, community events, and now our Untitled Open Mic.

/// Safer Space & Community Guidelines ///
